The Relics of Ancient and Eastern Activity
MS Europa 2 Voyage 1411 - May 13-26, 2014 - Piraeus to Lisbon

Enjoy THE FREEDOM THAT TAKES YOU PLACES while travelling – for example, under Venetian tower fortifications in Nauplia, on a boat trip along the Corinth* Canal or in Leptis Magna*, the largest preserved city of the ancient world. Discover Eastern flair in Medina and La Goulette, the Arabian old town of Tunis. Wander through traditional markets and interconnected alleyways and enjoy the traditional cafes. While the markets are dominated by the fragrance of spices, the Jardin d’Essai* in Algiers houses fascinating tropical plants that will greet you with exotic colours and scents. Lisbon, the proud city on the Tejo, rounds off your impressive cruise through the Mediterranean.

The highlights of this cruise:

  • Intensive in North Africa: Libya, Tunisia and Algeria
  • Unique testaments to Greek and Roman culture: Cyrene*, Leptis Magna* and Sabratha*
  • On the trail of the Carthaginians: the Bardo Museum* in Tunis and the ruins of Carthage*.
  • On board: the taste of Africa – an inspiring spice workshop.

16.05.2014
Kerkyra/Corfu/Greece, 8.00 – 17.00 hrs
With its Mediterranean climate and lush vegetation, the second-largest of the Ionian Islands is also known as “the Green Island”. Get up close and personal with the enchanting landscape on a mountain bike tour*. Or follow in Sissi’s footsteps: once upon a time, Empress Elisabeth of Austria commissioned the Achilleon*, a building surrounded by magnificent gardens with a sculpture park.
17.05.2014
Syracuse/Sicily/Italy, 13.00 – 22.00 hrs
Once Sicily’s most powerful city, its picturesque old town – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – never fails to impress. The central Piazza Archimede is surrounded by grand palazzi – immerse yourself in the vibrant lives of the locals. Thrilling active excursions such as canyoning* or a Jeep tour* await you at the foot of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano.
18.05.2014
Valletta/Malta, 8.00 – 18.00 hrs
Erected by the Grand Masters of the Knights of Malta, Valletta’s imposing walls defy the ages. In the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, historic sites such as St John’s Co-Cathedral and numerous cafes entice you to explore and relax. Alternatively, investigate the unspoilt nature of the small neighbouring island of Comino on a sea kayak adventure tour*.
19.05.2014
La Goulette (Tunis)/Tunisia, 13.00 – 19.00 hrs
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site is waiting to astound you in La Goulette: the Arabian old town of Tunis. A world of fairy tales, just as in 1,001 Nights, with interconnected alleyways and small stalls selling rugs, furniture and oriental jewellery. Set out after the traces of history and visit the Bardo Museum* and the old town: the museum displays treasures from the age of Carthage and houses the largest collection of Greek and Roman mosaics in the country.
