Day 1 - Istanbul (Turkey)
There are cities whose name alone leaves you spellbound! Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul - each of the names, whether past or present, of this great city on the Bosphorous evoke the power and the splendour of the Orient. Istanbul, winding along the banks of the Bosphorous, is one of the most extraordinary cities in the world and it is best discovered by the sea. On the horizon, a hillside hoves into sight, then dozens of slender and elegant minarets become visible amongst the domes and cupolas that dazzle around the Golden Horn.  The city illustrates the fabulous destiny of the capital that outlived Rome. Ever since these times, Istanbul, this great and beautiful Eastern City, which lit up Europe and the Ottoman Empire has been much more than a capital - it is a beacon in the history of civilisations.
