On the southern tip of Croatia, the walled-in city of former Ragusa reveals its secrets. Beautifully preserved, the architectural riches of this imperious town dazzle in the sunlight that illuminates the ochre-red roof tiles. Palaces, elegant buildings, cloisters and fountains are in perfect harmony in this unique setting, protected from the sea by its impressive city wall. Take your time as you stroll round the white marble paved streets, discovering a thousand years of history in one place. Long considered as a rival to Venice, this city’s illustrious past has earned it UNESCO World Heritage site status. Whether this is your first visit to Dubrovnik or not, the unique aura of the “Pearl of the Adriatic” always inspires the same emotions.

Day 4 - Kotor (Montenegro)
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Kotor estuary is the deepest fjord in the Adriatic. Formed by a complex series of bays extending 30 km inland in Montenegro, the gulf stretches between mountains whose peaks are lost in a surreal haze. Aboard LE soléal cruise these clear waters between sheer cliffs, sheltered coves and inlets dozing in the sun, dotted with villages whose buildings reflect their long history. An impressive wall conceals the alleyways and squares of the beautiful medieval city of Kotor at the end of the estuary. Equally famous for its colorful folk festivals, Kotor is surrounded by mountains and offers a landscape of unparalleled beauty.

Today it is a veritable artistic and architectural jewel, particularly known for its Byzantine Church of St Pietro which is home to precious frescoes. This peaceful city seems to slumber in the hollow of a natural bay which offers a magnificent view over the crystal waters of the Adriatic Sea. Its famous monuments such as the Acropolis and the Agora are some of the most beautiful in the world. The new Acropolis Museum was opened in June 2009. The architecture has been designed to pay homage to the Temple of Athena. The entire building is a showcase for the treasures found on the hillside of the ancient City of the Goddess. The main gallery of the Museum is home to the findings from the Acropolis hillside and the glass floor of the gallery overlooks the archaeological excavation, giving you the impression of wandering through the heart of the ancient remains.
