8 Day / 7 Night  Itinerary – Saturday Departures from Dubrovnik Croatia

DAY 1 · SATURDAY DUBROVNIK – KORCULA

EMBARKATION IN DUBROVNIK (Gruz harbor) FROM 11:00AM TO 12:00PM
DEPARTURE FROM DUBROVNIK 12:00.

Once you are on board the adventure can start. Over a welcome drink and a snack you will meet your Cruise Director and the crew of “Adriatic Pearl”. Captain’s orders and safety measures will be explained to you, after which the boat will set sail for your first destination, the island of Korcula. On the way you can start making acquaintances with fellow travelers or just enjoy the breeze and the landscape slowly passing you by. Expected arrival at the town of Korcula is in the evening.

Korcula is a small town of immense beauty located on the northeastern part of the island of Korcula. The medieval core of the town is built in a fishbone-like pattern on a small peninsula protruding into the sea, offering a great view of the sunsets Korcula is known for.

After your first dinner on board and docking at Korcula harbor, a local guide will take you for an evening walk around the town of Korcula. You will hear of its long history, ingenious building strategies, peculiar building layout and a legend of a great merchant traveler Marco Polo that was born and spent his childhood in the streets of Korcula.

NOTE: Due to the port authority regulations, Korcula town tour can be transferred to the next morning.

After the guided tour we recommend a relaxing stroll around the town for your first taste of the Mediterranean atmosphere you will be immersed in for the next couple of days.

First service on board: snack

Excursions: Korcula town tour – excursion package

Overnight in Korcula

DAY 2 • SUNDAY KORCULA – PUCISCA (island of Brac)

After breakfast, you will set sail towards the island of Brac, passing through the scenic Peljesac channel, around the tip of Peljesac penninsula and the southeastern tip of the island of Hvar. Weather permitting, Captain will drop the anchor on the way for a refreshing swim in a secluded bay, after which you will continue your journey towards Pucisca.

Pucisca is nested in a beautiful bay on the island of Brac, surrounded by stone quarries that yield some of the whitest and best quality limestone in the world. Suffice to say that pillars of this snow-white stone decorate the façade of the White House and other landmarks all over the world.

After docking at Pucisca, you can join a short visit to a stonemasonry school nearby where you will learn of the Brac limestone and their centuries-old tradition of stonemasonry and the unconventional tools they use.

Later in the evening you can pick your spot along the seaside, enjoy the relaxed and calm atmosphere over a glass of wine and join the locals in their favorite past time – people watching.

Excursions: Stonemasonry School in Pucisca – excursion package

Overnight in Pucisca

DAY 3 • MONDAY PUCISCA – OMIS – SPLIT

While breakfast is being served, you will leave the harbor and sail across the Brac channel back to the mainland. First destination of the day is Omis, a town known for two things: stunning beauty of river Cetina canyon that surrounds it and its pirates. There you can join a short walking tour where you will hear the story of this small town built below steep mountains at the mouth of river Cetina. You will also learn of its pirates that brought the town its fame in Middle Ages.

After the tour, you can board the small boats that will take you into the canyon of the river Cetina, a protected nature area. You will be travelling upriver to Radman’s mills, a run-down mill whose beauty was recently restored and where you will be served a snack of local specialties. After the snack, you can explore the area before your return to Omis.

In the afternoon you will continue sailing to Split, your port of call for the day. Upon arrival, our knowledgeable local guide will take you into the Old Town and introduce to you the monumental Diocletian Palace built over 1700 years ago. During the centuries the Old Town has grown into the palace and around it, creating a unique urban landscape. Because of its historical and architectural importance, the whole Old Town is part of the UNESCO’s List of World Cultural Heritage. After the tour you will have free time for individual exploration of Split and its lively Mediterranean spirit or you can just join the locals enjoying a cup of coffee on their much beloved seaside promenade.

Excursions:  Omis town tour, Split city tour – excursion package

Additional excursion: Cetina river boat trip to Radman mills with a snack – 20 EUR/person

Overnight in Split

DAY 4 • TUESDAY SPLIT – HVAR (island of HVAR)

Before leaving Split in the morning, you will have a unique opportunity to join your Cruise Director for an early morning visit to the fish and produce market in Split, where you can get an insight into the traditional cuisine and local ingredients and maybe even learn a traditional Croatian recipe or two.

Today you will be sailing towards Hvar, known as the sunniest island in Croatia, famous for its endless fields of lavender and rosemary, its beautiful coast and lovely historical towns. Your destination is the town of Hvar, a town of immense beauty that buzzes with vibrant energy in the summer sun. Upon arrival, our expert local guide will take you for a walk around the ancient streets of Hvar, after which you can join a short lavender presentation where you can learn how lavender and rosemary have been traditionally farmed in this area for centuries.

As the sun sets down, Hvar becomes alive with people; we recommend a cocktail at one of the numerous bars and terraces around the beautifully illuminated harbor.

NOTE: Due to the limited capacity of the Hvar harbor, during peak season in July and August, port of call can be substituted for Stari Grad. In that case transfer by bus will be organized to and from Hvar.

Excursions:  Fish and vegetable market tour, Hvar town tour & Lavender presentation – excursion package

Overnight in Hvar

DAY 5 • WEDNESDAY HVAR – VELA LUKA (island of KORCULA)

Wednesday morning after leaving Hvar your Captain will hand-pick a bay for you where he will drop the anchor. You can then hop into your swimsuit and have a swim in the crystal-blue Adriatic, surrounded by pine trees and the sound of crickets.

After the swim break you will continue sailing to Vela Luka on the island of Korcula, major fishermen’s town on the western side of island Korcula, our departure point for a coach tour into the island.

If you decide to join us for the coach tour of Korcula, after lunch you will board the coach for a first-hand perspective on the island’s hinterland, its vineyards, olive orchards and hilly landscape. On the tour you will visit several sights:

First the “Zlokic” olive oil factory, where Mr. Zlokic will show you around his factory explaining all you ever wanted to know about olive pressing. You will also be able to taste the premium extra-virgin cold pressed olive oils that your host produces.

Your next destination will be the family run folk museum “Barilo” in the town Blato, situated in the middle of the island that houses a collection of tools and items used by peasants on the island in the past several centuries. Your visit will be accompanied by traditional homemade liqueurs and sweets the family makes.

Your last stop on the tour will be a visit the picturesque town Smokvica built on the hillside for a visit to the local award-wining winery “Toreta”. Your hosts there will introduce you to the excellent white wines Posip and Rukatac that Korcula is widely known for.

After dinner you can expect an evening on board full of Dalmatian vibe, with the nightfall slowly setting on Vela Luka.

Additional excursion: Korcula coach tour: “Zlokic” olive oil factory, “Barilo” ethno museum and “Toreta” winery – 25 EUR/person

Overnight in Vela Luka

DAY 6 • THURSDAY VELA LUKA – POMENA (island of MLJET)

Early next morning you will depart for the last island on your journey – the island of Mljet.

Island of Mljet on its western side houses National Park Mljet, known for its immense beauty and its two turquoise salty lakes surrounded by thick forest. Upon arrival you will have plenty of free time to explore the park individually, for example, by renting bikes and cycling or jogging on the numerous paths around the lakes or in the forests. You can also rent kayaks and cut the surface of the magnificent lakes to observe the scenery from a different perspective. If you feel like just relaxing you can hop onto the small boat that will take you to a tiny island on one of the lakes, where you can discover a monastery and a church of St. Mary’s built in the 12th century and enjoy a cup of coffee with the view and the quiet.

Optional excursion: Mljet National Park – unguided tour, free time in the National park. Entrance fee 90 KN/13 EUR, 100 kn/15 EUR (July & August) to be paid on the spot

Overnight in Mljet

DAY 7 • FRIDAY POMENA – DUBROVNIK

Early in the morning Captain and his crew will take you on the last stretch of the route in the direction of Dubrovnik. On the way there you will witness beautiful scenery as you pass the Elaphite islands.

Upon arrival to Dubrovnik, shuttle bus will take you to the Old Town gate where you can join our guided tour of Dubrovnik. Our local expert will show you around this fascinating world-known landmark, an ancient town protected by 13th century fortifications. Dubrovnik was for centuries a standalone Republic and the only power able to compete with the Venetians. After the tour you will have free time to explore Dubrovnik on your own. You can take the cable-car to the top of the hill overlooking Dubrovnik for wonderful photo opportunities, make the full circle around the walls or just enjoy a scoop of ice cream as you stroll through its narrow streets paved with ancient stones.

Excursion: Dubrovnik town tour with a coach transfer from Dubrovnik port (Gruz) to the Old town – excursion package

Overnight in Dubrovnik

Northbound Voyage

Southbound Voyage

Norwegian Discovery

Roundtrip Voyage

Norwegian Fjord Cruises

Hurtigruten sails on, into the season of clear colours. As summer fades, watch the coastline shift from one season to the next. Along Norway’s shores the sharp, clear air strengthens the reds, yellows and oranges, which fill the mountainsides, hilltops and woods. The first cool evenings summon the colours of autumn. The birds migrate after a productive summer, and the Arctic light shortens. During this time the temperature remains pleasant, and with fewer passengers on board there is tranquility to travelling, as you enjoy the almost ethereal light playing over the first frosts. From the deck, framed by an icy blue sky, you can see a sprinkling of early snow on the highest peaks and there’s a sense of expectation in the air. The darkness comes gradually and the sun sets earlier and earlier. And if you are lucky the Northern Lights will appear and provide an act of magic.

The days shorten and temperatures drop a notch, but that is no reason to stay inside. Outside, in the fresh air, there are plenty of activities to embark upon. Enjoy Hurtigruten’s slow pace along the coast, and join us when we explore the cities and the colourful nature along the coast. Each port and the different parts of the coast give you the opportunity to experience something different.

SmallShips.travel | Norway | Spring and the Arctic Awakening

Northbound Voyage

Southbound Voyage

Norwegian Discovery

Roundtrip Voyage

Norwegian Fjord Cruises

After a long winter, warmth returns to the shores of Norway and sunlight rejuvenates life along the coastline. The sun works overtime to thaw this frozen land, rising higher and higher each day. Join us in experiencing three seasons in five days, and “The Arctic Awakening” of the Norwegian coastline.

Every new day brings a marked increase in both daylight hours and the greenery of the fjords. Bare branches shoot, and colour gently returns to the landscape. At the higher latitudes of the Arctic region, winter struggles to maintain its grip. Eventually, it relents although snow-caps still decorate the mountain tops of the north until the early summer. This is a time of celebration and May witnesses the festivities of Norwegian National Day (17 May), when the coastal communities become a blaze of colour and tradition. All our ships take part in the parades and celebrations. The Arctic Awakening Hurtigruten’s new spring concept, The Arctic Awakening, enriches the voyage with activities on board and exciting new shore excursions. We take you closer to the teeming life in the ocean, the migratory birds and the local inhabitants of small communities. These are the ingredients of a Hurtigruten spring voyage. The return of the Arctic summer is like an infusion of vitamins kick-starting the birds, plants and animals in their breeding, growing and feeding. Hurtigruten invites all our guests to bear witness to this spectacle and participate in The Arctic Awakening!

Spring Highlights:

  • In spring you can also take part in several of our winter activities north of the Arctic Circle. For example, a snowmobile trip in Lapland, a stay at the Snow Hotel and dog sledging.
  • The unique migratory bird-life at this time of the year.
  • As part of our spring programme, you can participate in several on board activities andshore excursions focusing on Norway’s sea and birdlife.
  • See the beautiful Geirangerfjord (16 Apr – 15 Sep) and Trollfjord.
  • Cross the Arctic Circle and enjoy the return of the Midnight Sun from the 14th of May.
  • Norway’s National Day, the 17th of May, is celebrated with children’s parades and festivities throughout the country.

SmallShips.travel | Norway | Summer and the Midnight Sun

Northbound Voyage

Southbound Voyage

Norwegian Discovery

Roundtrip Voyage

Norwegian Fjord Cruises

Come summer, the Land of the Midnight Sun truly lives up to its name. The intense extended daylight above the Arctic Circle lasts around the clock making every Norwegian ‘night’ a joy to behold. In fact, you may have to force yourself to go to bed.

Take time to enjoy the wonder of Norway’s Midnight Sun on board a Hurtigruten ship. This is a natural phenomenon found in latitudes north of the Arctic Circle, where the sun stays above the horizon for 24 hours. Brilliant sunshine through the clear Arctic air bathes the shores, fjords, mountains and bays in fiery reds, soft pinks and golden yellows complemented by the deep, soft greens of pine and hardwood forests.

Summer is the most popular time of the year for exploring Norway’s coast. Because of the light during the summer months, the whole country explodes into life. Flowers bloom, rivers fill with fish and giant waterfalls cascade towards the ocean creating a picture perfect setting for a summer holiday. At each port you will experience something different.

Bask at your leisure in the setting sun. You have all the time in the world; day and night sightseeing is the norm as going to bed is, for once, not necessarily the preferred activity in the small hours.

24-hour daylight provides energy to the flora and fauna along the coast, as well as to the Norwegians themselves, and this is likely to rub off on you as well. So, why not use his new found energy to experience Hurtigruten’s exclusive summertime shore excursions and activities.

Summer Highlights

  • Experience Geirangerfjord and Trollfjord, both of which are at their most beautiful at this time of year.
  • Above the Arctic Circle you can experience the Midnight Sun and 24 hours of daylight.
  • See some of Norway’s UNESCO-listed sites – Bergen’s Bryggen District, Geirangerfjord, the Meridian Column (Hammerfest) and the Vega Islands.

SmallShips.travel | Norway | Winter – Hunting the Light

Northbound Voyage

Southbound Voyage

Norwegian Discovery

Roundtrip Voyage

Norwegian Fjord Cruises

A winter expedition along the coast of Norway is a beautiful experience. The landscape is covered in pure white snow; the air is fresh, pure and crisp. Clusters of cosy houses glow on the shores like embers, and the stunning backdrop of snow-clad mountains reflects the polar twilight. Join us in hunting the Aurora Borealis, a major element of the winter journey. In the winter, the sun is low on the horizon and, north of the Arctic Circle, can even be below the horizon for some weeks. This natural phenomenon creates beautiful shades of light. The Northern Lights are something else entirely! For thousands of years people in the northern part of the world have marvelled at the spectacular displays that occasionally light up the night sky. Sailing with Hurtigruten will provide the best possibilities to experience the magic colour show from light green to dark purple flickering across the Arctic sky.

The term “Hunting the Light” originates from one of our captains. He had observed guests out on deck chasing the most magical of all natural phenomena, the Northern Lights. “Hunting the Light” is a signature of Hurtigruten’s winter voyages, hunting and experiencing the many and beautiful types of light visible during the winter months.
