SmallShips.travel | Belle de L'Adriatique – Naples, the Amalfi Coast,Aeolian Islands, Sicily and Calabria

Day 1: NAPLES (Embarkation Day)

After comfortably settling into your cabins, we’ll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail. Tonight we’ll enjoy dinner and an evening of activities on board and remain in port overnight.

Day 2: NAPLES

All meals served on board. The morning will be dedicated to a visit of Pompeii. A reminder of the violent forces that lie deep inside Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii is Europe’s most compelling archaeological site and one of Italy’s most visited tourist attractions.

The afternoon will be dedicated to a guided tour of Naples. Italy’s third-largest city is one of its oldest, most eccentric, and most delicious. We’ll discover the must-see sites such as Old Naples, the Royal Palace of Naples (outside), and the Cappella Sansevero (indoor), containing the masterpiece Veiled Christ, renowned world over for the remarkable tissue-like quality of the marble. We’ll return on board our ship and begin to cruise towards Milazzo. Tonight we’ll have a Neapolitan theme evening. Our ship will cruise through the night.

Day 3: The Aeolian Islands – MILAZZO

All meals served on board. The morning will be spent cruising to the Aeolian Islands (subject to favorable weather conditions). Rising out of the cobalt-blue seas off Sicily’s northeastern coast, the UNESCO-protected Aeolian Islands are a little piece of paradise. The chain of islands is named after the demigod of the winds, Aeolus. We’ll arrive in Milazzo in the early afternoon. Join us for an excursion to Tindari. Discover the Sanctuary of the Black Madonna built on a promontory overhanging the entire Gulf of Patti and its immense Tonnarai d’Oliveri lagune. Free time in the center of Milazzo. Return trip. Tonight’s dinner will be followed by an evening of entertainment. We’ll remain in port overnight.

Day 4: MESSINE (Sicily)

All meals served on board. Day trip (lunch included, except drinks) to Mount Etna and Taormina. Spend an unforgettable day combining a visit to these two exceptional sites. The largest active volcano in Europe. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire, and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. The bleak lava wilderness around the summit of Etna is one of the most memorable landscapes you’ll ever see. We’ll then continue on to Taormina, idyllically perched on a rock high above the sea, Taormina incarnates the legendary beauty of Sicily. Its Greek-Roman theatre is not to be missed. Tonight’s evening will have a Sicilian theme.

Day 5: VIBO MARINA

All meals served on board. Day trip (lunch included, except drinks) to Calabria. Calabria is at the toe of the boot, the extreme south of Italy – lapped by the splendid crystal-clear Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Its warm climate, beautiful colors, rocky coasts, local food and the vestiges of its ancient origins make Calabria a unique place to be enjoyed in both winter and summer. We’ll begin our visit with Tropea, a seaside resort with impressive scenery. It has that lovely, timeless, faded feel characteristic of sleepy southern Italian seaside towns. We’ll enjoy a tasting of some local delicacies. Afterwards, we’ll head to Pizzo, one of the hidden gems of Calabria. The center of Pizzo is a picturesque network of narrow lanes bustling with modern Calabrian life. After dinner, entertainment will be provided by the crew. We’ll cruise towards Salerno throughout the night.

Day 6: SALERNO

All meals served on board. We’ll spend the morning cruising along the Amalfi Coast. Designated by UNESCO as an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, the Amalfi Coast combines great beauty and gripping drama: coastal mountains plunge into the sea among the deep crags, picturesque towns and lush forests. Excursion to visit the villages along the Amalfi Coast. We’ll discover Sorrento, and its extraordinary gardens and landscapes. Tonight will be our gala dinner and evening. Our boat will begin to cruise during the night.

Day 7: NAPLES

All meals served on board. Full-day excursion to Capri and Anacapri (lunch included, except drinks). We’ll take an airboat to splendid Capri. On arrival, we’ll head to the village of Anacapri and visit the villa San Michele, built at the turn of the last century by Swedish physician and author Axel Munthe. Anacapri is located in the highest part of the island, and from the villas gardens you’ll have a fantastic view of the city of Capri, the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Anacapri is saturated with the colors, scents and light of the Mediterranean. In the afternoon, enjoy some free time on your own or visit the Gardens of Augustus, offering splendid views of the sea and fantastic photographic vistas. We’ll return to Naples by airboat. Tonight we’ll have a traditional folklore entertainment. We’ll remain in port overnight.

Day 8: NAPLES (Disembarkation Day)

Enjoy one last buffet breakfast on board before disembarking around 9:00 a.m. End of our services.

SmallShips.travel | Sea Cloud | Dubrovnik to Valletta Sep 25 2018

Dubrovnik to Valletta

September 25th to October 2nd 2018

Voyage SC – 1832

Itinerary

25. Sep 2018 Dubrovnik (Croatia)   23:59

When Venice still ruled the Adriatic, Dubrovnik was an important maritime republic and the floating city’s chief rival. Dubrovnik proudly calls itself the “Pearl of the Adriatic” and its fortress is one of the best preserved in Europe. As you walk around the imposing walls of the old town, you can look out across two seas – the deep blue Adriatic and a sea of red roof shingles. The old town, with its beautiful squares, magnificent boulevards and narrow winding alleyways, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

01. Oct 2018 Stops are arranged according to wind and weather conditions
02. Oct 2018 Valletta (Malta) 08:00

This strategically important location has always attracted foreign conquerors. More than 7,000 years ago, a civilisation existed here, leaving behind enormous temple complexes. Just like proud Valletta, these are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Jean Parisot de la Valette, Grand Master of the Order of St John, founded a modern fortified city on a rock in 1566, between the two splendid natural ports of Marsamxett and Grand Harbour. Long rows of facades made from golden-yellow blocks of chalk stretch along the straight streets. Splendid Renaissance and Baroque buildings are evidence of riches and power, such as the Palace of the Grand Master and the impressive St John’s Co-Cathedral.

SmallShips.travel | MS Fram | Spitsbergen – Realm of the Polar Bears

North West Spitsbergen National Park

In local slang called The North West Corner, this area, scattered as it is with islands, fjords and beaches has a long history of exploration. When Willhelm Barentz first found Svalbard in 1596, this was the land he first saw. The name he gave to this new land was Spitzbergen, reflecting the sharp and steep mountains in the area.

Below you can read about some of the possible sites we may visit.

Kongsfjorden

Kongsfjorden or Kings Bay is the largest fjord on the North West coast of Spitsbergen. A large side fjord called Krossfjorden may be visited as well this day. The landscape varies from large tundra plains to alpine peaks with dramatic glaciers bouncing into the ocean. Look out for the mountain called Mitra – named after the catholic bishops’ hat – you will see it on the northern shores of the entrance of Kongsfjorden. In the end of the fjord you see the majestic Kongsbreen (Kings Glacier) with the three characteristic nunataks: Nora, Dana and Svea – named after the three Scandinavian countries.

Ny Ålesund

At 78º 55′ N, Ny-Ålesund is one of the world’s northermost year-round communities. Previously a Coal mining community, now an advanced High Arctic research station.

In the heroic age of exploration Ny Ålesund was the starting point for numerous expeditions towards the North Pole. Names like Amundsen, Ellsworth and Nobile are strongly linked to this place and you can still, today, see the airship mast that the dirigible” Norge” was moored to before her departure on the first trans-polar flight. A number of countries run their own national research stations here, and research activity is high in the summer.

Magdalenefjorden Magdalenefjorden is one of the fjords that we aim at visiting. Here you’ll experience a very important cultural heritage; a whaling station from the 16th century, including a graveyard of whalers that died during the first “oil adventure”.

Monaco Glacier Deep inside the giant Woodfjord system, in the branch called Liefdefjorden the enormous and fast moving Monaco Glacier is situated. In front of this dramatically crevassed glacier front there is always a lot of brash ice and larger pieces that have “calved off”. Mixing of fresh and saline water creates an upwelling of sea-living creatures towards the surface making them available for the local sea birds.
